Abstract
Duodenal atresia is the most common type of congenital small-bowel obstruction. Most cases are thought to represent an alteration in embryologic development in which there is failure to recanalize the duodenal lemen during the 11th week of
gestation.
This anomaly has been associated with trisomy 21 in approximately 30 percent of infants and may be even more common in cases diagnosed prenatally9~10. Also duodenal atresia is associated with a high incidence of other associated anomalies,
including
congenital heart disease, esphageal atresia, imperforated anus, small bowel atresia, biliary atresia, and renal and vertebral anomalies.
It is the one amenable to successful surgical correction and has good prognosis by early treatment.
We report a case of duodenal atresia diagnosed by ultrasonography at 35 weeks gestational age and operated the first day of cesarean section with a brief review of literatures.
